Overlook Park, just below downtown Pocahontas on US Hwy 67 and along the Black River is the site of the historic Port of Pocahontas. During the Civil War, this port area was a major Confederate supply point for the Confederate armies headquartered in Pocahontas including The Army of the West Under Major General Earl Van Doren, The Army of Northern Arkansas under General Hardee, and the Confederate Army of Missouri under General Sterling Price, as well as the site of the first Confederate Military Hospital in Arkansas.
The Park today, on it's upper level, contains a series of 6 historic markers explaining the historic importance of the Black River and the Port including it's Civil War significance. Also at that level is another historic marker Randolph County in the Civil War.
In the Park's lower level, along the Black River, is the Civil War River Walk Memorial Trail--a series of 6 historic markers established in 2006 along a paved trail with a Civil War themed bench at each marker. The markers tell the story of Randolph County's Civil War history in detail including several major skirmishes in the county, lists of all units--both Confederate and Union stationed in the county, the capture of General Jeff Thompson, the 1863 burning of Pocahontas by Union forces, and many other significant events that occurred in Randolph County during the war.
The Old Court Square, just above the Park on Hwy 67 contains the site of the St. Charles Hotel, headquarters at various times for all Confederate and Union forces in the area, site of the assassination of Union recruiter Williams Evans, site of the capture of the Missouri Swamp Fox--General Jeff Thompson, and site of the 1865 St. Charles Massacre. Nearby on the square is the Randolph County History Museum containing Civil War Artifacts and a power point presentation of the county's Civil War History.

Take US Hwy 67 north from Little Rock to Pocahontas. Cross the Black River and continue on Hwy 67 to its intersection with Arkansas Hwy 90. Overlook Park is to the right of the intersection, historic downtown Pocahontas is to the left.
